Governor Ugwuanyi and the affirmation of God’s Presence in Enugu State

Those who wait on the Lord shall have their strength renewed, they shall walk, they shall run but not be wearied says the Good Book. When, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi onboarded the cabin to steer the ship of state, he must have sat down to encapsulate his vision to the next destination of Ndi Enugu in one simple but powerful philosophy. Enugu state shall be entrusted in the able hands of God whole and entire thus confirming the old wise saying that one with God is majority.
When we were growing up, our parents always regaled us with why and wherefores of the names they chose for us at Baptism. They were always religious when it came to selecting beautiful names from the Bible that is not only inspiring but impactful. In other words, our parents would want us to take after those beautiful characters who served God in the true sense of it and were able to impact their generation. I’m certain therefore that the parents of Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, today the Executive governor of Enugu state must have sat down to figure out what they would want their son to become or the character he should emulate his or her steps. This must have explained why the name David was part of his name. Not many would appreciate the fact that today, governor Ugwuanyi has become like the legendary David in the Bible who ruled Israel in the years of yore with the fear of God. The Bible described David as a man after God’s own heart. Many characters in the lineage of David has ruled Israel before the emergence of David, yet only him considered God’s dwelling in the tents as truly undeserving of the status of the Great Omnipotent Being. The Bible thus credited David with the first king of Israel to have made serious efforts to erect a befitting Temple or Abode for God. Even in the midst of David’s famed love for God, He could not allow him to have his way at building a Temple for Him, allowing only his successor, Solomon to do the building.

And here in our own time, another David emerged right here on Enugu State soil and God in affirmation of people’s will made him the leader of his people. In the last six years, he has occupied the Lion Building, the seat of power, God has demonstrated that David Nwa Ugwuanyi is truly after His heart. But unlike his alter ego in the Bible, God allowed this David to erect a befitting Chapel in His Honour and Glory right in the heart of the government house. Ndi Enugu would truly attest to the fact that a lot of resources went into the building of that building to establish God’s presence in the seat of power in His Splendour and Grace. Little wonder then, why God has prospered his candid efforts in the service of Ndi Enugu.

It might be difficult to ascertain why Ugwuanyi’s predecessors in office did not accord priority to having a temple around the government house, but one thing is clear, David Ugwuanyi became like a proverbial idea whose time came when it came.

Without doubt, apart from handing the state into God’s hands, Gov Ugwuanyi did everything also to bring God divinely into the governance of Enugu State. Even the Bible said, “if God is for us, who will be against us” Rom 8:31. Who could lead, advise, counsel, protect, teach and inspire someone better than God? No one indeed. Gov Ugwuanyi knows the importance of divine presence in governance and want to be fully guided divinely. Government appointees and the entire workforce and those working in the state house are humans and also need divine guidance and direction to do their work.
Man has spirit, soul and body. Naturally man’s spirit inspires him on what to do, guide him and takes control of what happens to the soul and body. A chapel is a place of worship. When one has a place where his spirit can connect divinely for better output, what else can he wish for?. The chapel will also encourage morality and fear of God in the staff of government house. It will also bring a good atmosphere for reconciliation among aggrieved workers in government house.

Before the chapel was built, men of God do come to government house for prayers and stay in open space, at other times they stay in the packing lots but today the narrative have changed.

There was no better time to open the chapel than when it was done. It was done when the Roman Catholic Bishops in Nigeria came for their conference in Enugu. In attendance was over a hundred Bishops. Other men of God from other denominations were in attendance during the dedication of the chapel.

Enugu state will surely witness a new wave of development, peace and serenity. Standard of living will improve and there would be more private sector participation going forward. This truly affirms that Enugu State is in the hands of God.
