Again Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu State takes another bold step to bring government closer to the grassroots. With the creation of 12 new development centers across the 3 Senatorial zones in the state, governor Ugwuanyi seems to be making a bold statement – that ultimate power belongs to the people. The realization of the fact that people will fare better and even development assured when government is brought closer to the people have always propelled the governor to take the right steps in his service compact with the people. The citizens of Enugu were over joyed when the government approved the establishment of 12 additional development areas in the following locations;
1. Igbo Etiti – Igbo-Etiti North development Centre.
2. Igboeze South – Igboeze South West development Centre.
3. Igboeze North – Igboeze North South development Centre.
4. Nsukka – Nsukka South development Centre.
5. Udenu – Udenu East development Centre.
These development centers are from Enugu North Senatorial zone. Other areas where the approval for development centers were made are,
1. Enugu North – Enugu North South development Centre.
2. Enugu North – Enugu North West development centre.
3. Enugu South – Enugu South East development Centre.
4. Enugu South – Enugu South South development Centre.
5. Aninri – Aninri South development center.
6. Oji-River – Oji-River South development center.
These centers from Enugu West Senatorial zone.
An additional development center was equally established in Enugu East, thus in Isi-Uzo – Eha-Amufu West development center was created to complete the pack.
I’m certain that no body should be in doubt that governor Ugwuanyi meant well for the people of the state. No doubt, the creation of the new development centers is bound to accelerate rural development around these areas in an efficient and effective manner and ensure that the dividends of democracy are enjoyed by the people. It is important to stress that what the governor has done is to decentralize the issue of financing development among the core local government Councils and the new development regions. The new development centers therefore would be able to take extra budgetary allocations from the state government which will be dedicated to developing the hinterlands where government presence in yet to permeate. This is heart warming.
Another interesting aspect of the new creation of these centers is the job opportunities these would have thrown up both directly and indirectly. For one, while the building of the administrative offices of these centers would commence, many skilled labours like Masons, Carpenters, Electricians, Painters etc would be engaged. Food vendors would be on site of these buildings to support these retinue of skilled workers.
When the centers become fully operational, retinue of administrative staff would equally be engaged by the government. More social infrastructures would be provided for the benefit of the administrative staff and the inhabitants of the Rural region. Economic activities would be boosted through these. The value chain is truly endless.
Governor Ugwuanyi is a leader who understands that only even development could guarantee peace, equality and prosperity of the people. Little wonder, he has been moving with the speed of the light to ensure effective and even development of all the nooks and crannies of Enugu State. May God continue to bless and protect him. As his term of office finally draw to a close, Ndi Enugu would forever remain grateful to God for gifting us with this rare individual as a leader who understands his mission clearly. Enugu state is truly in safe hands with Governor Ugwuanyi on the saddle.
