The past one week can safely be titled “A week of support declaration” for His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Executive governor of Enugu State, as groups after another came to appreciate his giant strides and project Bazaar in Enugu State while they pledged their loyalty to him.
But we all saw it coming; the people’s governor deserves it.
If there is anything that keeps the governor above par in his leadership credentials, it is his endearment to the ordinary people of the state. He has the charm. He knows the craft. He possesses the template. He knows and provides what they want.
When he embarked on massive urban renewal of the rural areas, and concentrated the chunk of his infrastructural strides in the localities, people tasted for the first time, the beauty of democracy and good governance. They loved him by default. No one can hate a governor that delivers the gains of government to the grassroots.
Governor Ugwuanyi is also famed for drawing the line between politics and governance. His principle is that once elected, every true leader should focus on delivering on the promise. Enugu got it right when they choose in Ugwuanyi, a governor who doesn’t play with the electoral mandate of the people.
And despite the frenzy of 2023 general election cascading the atmosphere; when who becomes the next governor is dominating all discourses, His Excellency has kept his cool and remained focused on exceeding expectations in providing democracy dividends. His contracts with Ndi Enugu ends on May 29, 2023. And he is not ready to waste any second in diversionary conversations of who takes what, because he trusted that Ndi Enugu who choose him seven years ago will make another right choice when the time comes.
Such a leader!
The people are not oblivious of this exceptional virtue of his. They keep rewarding his innovative leadership. Last Friday, the immediate past 260 councilors in Enugu State reiterated their unflinching support and solidarity to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, come 2023 elections as the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), not only in the state but also in the entire South East geo-political zone.
The former councilors who gave the endorsement when they paid a solidarity visit to Gov. Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, described the governor as a good teacher and father to all, disclosing that they have learnt a lot from his uncommon leadership style.
They commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for teaching them quality leadership style, especially in the areas of peace and good governance.
The immediate past councilors expressed their unreserved gratitude to the governor for the opportunity he gave them to serve under his administration.
They equally appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for the peace and harmony his administration has enthroned in the entire Enugu State.
The former councilors further thanked the governor for the peaceful atmosphere under which Local Government elections were conducted recently in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the immediate past councilors, the state coordinator of the group, Hon. Walter Wisdom Ozoanya, emphasized that they choose call Gov. Ugwuanyi their father and good teacher because they went to school for four years under his able and capable hand where they saw everything and was able to conquer under his studios watch.
This unalloyed support remains an ample testimony of the Governor’s sterling leadership qualities, his administration’s developmental strides as well as its remarkable achievements in the rural areas.
Hon. Wisdom maintained that governor Ugwuanyi’s signature projects will take students of political history a long time to document and would not fail to mention in particular the uncommon face lift given to hitherto dilapidated Agbani road axis and his resolve to break the shackles of perennial traffic gridlock along the popular Abakpa-Nike T-Junction by the massive flyover bridge project which is nearing completion.
Truly, his Excellency, the governor of Enugu state have shown capacity as a leader of the people and a champion of rural development.
No better way to put it again that Enugu is safely in the hands of God because Latin phrase agrees that vox populi est vox Dei (the voice of the people is the voice of God).
