Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s many virtues has continued to resonate with a wide spectrum of people, political opponents inclusive. Humility, candour, integrity remains a scarce commodity among the ruling elites. It is therefore important to commend the people’s governor with such rare qualities.
A 3 time House of Representatives member who represented Igboeze North/Udenu Federal constituency have never allowed the allures of power get to his head as has been observed by this writer. Six solid years down the line as the Executive Governor of Enugu state, Ugwuanyi is still subsumed in the virtues he is widely acclaimed for. No airs whatsoever around him as is won’t to be among politicians of his ilk. Ugwuanyi could be said to have been steeped in the realisation that this life is transient and God is the owner of all souls and the imperatives of acting out what God has deposited in each individual which is the essence of being. Nothing really is as gratifying as having a leader who is not only approachable but gravitates to the wide spectrum of social classes to hear out their complaints. A true essentials lacking in today’s leaders.
As a governor who has a very busy and demanding schedules, he still finds time to attend to many private social functions and to even those of his political opponents. Such a candour!
The favorite past time of most political leaders in the country today is to announce their presence on the road when going to one or another function and would always most likely intimidate other road users with high blaring siren and a convoluted convoy of vehicles, not so with Gburu-Gburu of Enugu state. His convoy has always been orderly. His uncommon humility it could be argued has made him to remain focused in governance and as well as dispensing utmost loyalty to the power brokers that saw to his emergence as the chief executive of the state. Elsewhere around the federation, it has been one sordid tale after another between the incumbent and their former political god father(s) which has largely retarded accelerated socio-economic development.
Nothing again is as gratuitous as one whose uncommon humility has brought so much peace in his domain.
We pray that the Almighty God will gift the coal city state with another version of Ugwuanyi. Even the holy book said “he who humbles himself with be exalted but he who exalt himself will be debased.
