Lauretta Onochie, Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged Nigerians not to extend hate for her principal to the country.
Onochie whose nomination as an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner by Buhari attracted nationwide outrage stated this in a series of tweets on Wednesday.
The presidential aide stated that the hatred for Buhari shouldn’t be extended to the nation’s institutions.
Onochie warned that doing such would only be inimical to the development of the country.
“If you choose to hate our President and Legislators, it’s okay but that hatred must not be extended to Nigeria and her institutions,” she wrote.
She asked Nigerians to follow the example of the Americans who have chosen to defend their democracy and electoral process despite denigrating’ comments by US President Donald Trump.
Onochie wrote: “While President Trump is denigrating America’s electoral system, Americans are fiercely defending the integrity of their electoral body, that’s patriotism.”
“We must stand by our institutions as they make progress towards serving us better,” She added.
