H/E RT. HON. IFEANYI UGWUANYI happens to be the Chairman of the PDP Zoning Committee ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
This is a critical assignment, considering that the two main political parties in Nigeria (APC & PDP) see Nigeria as having two divides, North and South, and such, see things as balanced when the interests of those divides are fully represented and protected. In that same spirit, when there is an intention for those political parties to choose a National Chairman, whichever of the zones the party chairmanship position goes, the other zone produces their candidate for president.
For quite sometime, Nigeria has experienced several attacks, agitations, and rejections, mainly by the southerners. Meanwhile, the Northerners, not minding the concerns and feelings being expressed by the southerners and some other Nigerians, wish to retain the president and all the anti-people policies that have kept Nigeria stagnant. As felt by most Nigerians, they have equally used the Judiciary, security, and anti-graft agencies to fight whoever would stand against their interests.
At this sensitive period, Governor Ugwuanyi was unanimously chosen, by the PDP to chair their committee on National party chairmanship zoning which we all know shall also determine where their presidential candidate goes. Immediately after, there were pressures and persuasions from the North, directly and indirectly, coming from both PDP and APC, to support zoning the party Chairmanship to the South so that the president goes to the North.
However, this is the summary of the story. It ended with the Governors voting for the Chairmanship position to go to the North. The simple meaning is that the Presidency will be zoned to the South. It will go a long way in affecting the decisions of the APC too.
I am happy about this development because of its spirit of fairness, justice, equity, and responsiveness.
Please, let us cheer and encourage our dear Governor, H/E RT HON IFEANYI UGWUANYI, so he can do more.
Recall that against all odds:
– He hosted the Southern Governors Forum, where they reaffirmed their earlier commitment to structural and fiscal federalism, resolved to support the position that the collection of VAT falls within the power of the states, insisted on Southern President in 2023.
– He was amongst the first-eighth states in Nigeria to sign the anti-grazing bill into law.
– He formed forest guards to curb the excesses of the herders in our farms; forest guards have silently recorded numerous achievements in that regard. These were in the wake of the growing insecurity in Nigeria occasioned by herdsmen.
– He supported the creation of state police which is yet to see the light of the day.
– He supported the aborted electronic transmission of the election result come 2023.
– With the Governor’s forum in their Lagos meeting, he frowned at selective criminal administration of justice. They also advised the security agents to make arrests within the ambit of the law and fundamental human rights.
– Etc.
God bless him that has placed the interest of his people above self.
