For those who have questioned why his Excellency, the governor of Enugu state is constantly on the news or receiving garlands all over the place, this peace might just serve to prove these incurable pessimists right. It is important to state also the essence of government in any given society which has the soul responsibility of making life meaningful for the people by way of investment in socio-political and economic development.
In our clime noted for its fledgling democracy, state actors have always observed these responsibilities in the breach by largely playing to the gallery. The state actors have lately turned to demi-gods who must be appeased before they can dispense with the common wealth. This has ensured a wide gap between those actors who are on the political space to massage their egos and those who have genuine interest in changing the narrative of their society.
Now, where would you like to place Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi? A state actor with a difference to uplift his society or one interested in hero worshipping? Please think one more time. Those with good taste all over the place have wittingly defined Ugwuanyi’s life as a selfless leader in a 21st century and one who shines out among the lot of political leaders with the propensity to feather their own nest rather than that of the people they have come to lead. Take it or leave it, Gov. Ugwuanyi is also a workaholic who detest indolence anywhere. It is not for nothing that with his clearly defined vision and mission, he sought competent hands to help in the actualization of his administration’s objectives. Such competent technocrats have all lived up their billings and still does.
Recently, the Ugwuanyi led administration under the auspices of the state fire service embarked on a sensitization campaign in schools aimed at educating students and staff on ways of preventing fire outbreak.
It is another subtle move aimed at ingraining in the sub-conscious of the people the importance of managing a safe and a threat free environment.
Reliving the efforts of the state government led by Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in the area of safety of her citizens in recent time during the flag off of the Sensitization at IMT Enugu, the state Chief Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa, affirmed that the campaign was in furtherance of the administration’s zero fire outbreak programmes in Enugu State. Engr. Ohaa further disclosed that the administration of Ugwuanyi was able to construct and equip five new ultra-modern fire service stations across the three senatorial zones of the state after 56 solid years since the previous stations were constructed. An additional 66 firefighters have also been recruited to boost its workforce, while five new Mini Fire Trucks with all the necessary equipment for the five newly constructed fire service stations have also been procured. Government has equally purchased five new Rapid Response Fire-fighting Vehicles for the state fire service as well as construction of boreholes in the new fire service stations located at Orba, Ogurute, Oji River, Ozalla and Udi, Engr. Ohaa maintained.
Not done with the journey so far embarked by Gov. Ugwuanyi to reposition the state fire service for better service delivery, Engr. Ohaa further elucidated that the state government improved in the capacity of the fire workforce by sponsoring the Chief Fire Officer for training abroad at Fire Service College Motern in Mash London, UK. In 2019, another five (5) fire officers were sponsored for a national fire conference in Ilorin, Kwara State as well as the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the safety of all firefighters in the state. Gov. Ugwuanyi led administration equally installed fire extinguishers of various types and sizes in over 24 major markets in his state and other fire prone locations.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is indeed a capacity leader who uses state resources in a manner his contemporaries might not have considered or thought of. His sagacity must be commended. And please, let all men of goodwill continue to hail this extraordinary and an exceptional leader of our time.
