Internally Generated Revenue refers to the funds generated by the states internally that is not part of the statutory federal allocations and loans. Most states generate internal revenue through taxes, rates and rents and other sundry levies.
Gov Ugwuanyi as a prudent manager of resources have ensured through his many far reaching economic policies the steady growth of the state’s IGR since coming to power as the CEO of Enugu State in 2015.
Out of the 36 states in Nigeria and the FCT, Enugu have always had a comfortable lead when it comes to the issue of Internally Generated Revenue. In 2019, Enugu took the 9th position while in 2020, she took no 12 position owing to the impact of COVID19 on the global economy. As the year 2021 progresses, latest statistics shows that the coal city state is sitting comfortably on no 6th position.
Expectedly, Lagos, Rivers and Delta have always took the first three positions owing to the nature of their states as the economic hub capital and oil deposits respectively. What has often waoed the minds of keen watchers of economic indices in Enugu is the position she has always occupied in the entire statistical records. With the benefit of hindsight, Enugu State have never had it so good. Without the benefit of big industries, markets and mineral deposits in comparison with her closest competitors save for coal which is not a good fund earner at the moment, one has often wondered how Rt honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is achieving the rare fit in the Internally Generated Revenue of the state.
All the markets in Enugu state put together cannot compete with Main market Onitsha in Anambra State. Infact the whole of Onitsha North and South LGA is almost turned into market. Half of Ogbaru LGA is market yet Enugu is doing better than Anambra in IGR. The whole of Africa comes to Aba and Onitsha for one business transaction or the other.
If truth be told, Governor Ugwuanyi is the real factor.
The zeal and spirit of self sustainance in Gov Ugwuanyi have done this and it is yielding the desired result. Gov Ugwuanyi is a financial magician. The IGR of Enugu state have grown from less that N10 billion to over N16 billion according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report since Ugwuanyi came on board. Their reports have been showing impressive growth every year.
Enugu state collects income tax, PAYE tax, development levy, business premises tax, sanitation levy, water rate etc from residents and workers in Enugu State in both private and public sectors.
It is important to stress that with the continual improvement of IGR, so also there are improvements on the socio-political and economic development factors. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is the real factor for sure! Enugu State is truly in the hands of God. Gburus, continue.
