As customary in every political enterprise, the wake of any election is always awash with several strategies invented by the politicians seeking to occupy leadership positions. Those who are bereft of effective convincing edges would resort to stirring the water with confusing ideaologies. But in all, every political party must present its candidate alongside a package of manifesto which contains the programs they intend to deliver if they are given the chance to pilot the affairs of the people.
When Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi started nursing the ambition to handle the mantle of leadership as the number one citizen of Enugu State, he was not primarily driven by materialistic tendencies nor a vainglorious quest for fame, rather he was pushed by his beautiful dreams for his people and articulated his visions in a four-point agenda which includes employment generation, enhanced social services and good governance,rural development and security and justice. Gov Ugwuanyi also promised to do everything within his ambit to attract manufacturing companies and investors in order to boost employment opportunities and aid faster development. And today, as his administration ages, it becomes our responsibility to take a memory lane to review how far the governor has done to fulfill his promises.
Knowing that everyone was looking up to him to understand how he would wave his magic wand to solve the myriads of problems facing the state, Gov. Ugwuanyi swung to action by reinvigorating the SME centre to create channels self-development and empowerment of thousands of unemployed and underemployed youths residents of the state and today the programs have kept on producing productive products. Thousands of state teachers have been recruited, trained ,retrained and mobilized for the efficacy of education. Other employment channels also initiated and implemented by Gburu Gburu’s administrative machinery includes the recruitment of M.O.T staff along with state cleaners which accommodated thousands of people that have continued to make their necessary contributions in traffic control . We have not forgotten that sometimes in 2017, the governor ordered that about fifty physically challenged graduates from the state should be given automatic employment.
The governor has not kept blind eyes to the vast opportunities inherent in Agro-Entrepreneurship development as he has attracted and sponsored several skills acquisition programs that have supported a lot of ENUGU people to access agricultural loans and make their meaningful contribution to the economic viability of the state. So, taking cognizance of the series of the empowerment and employment projects organised and implemented by the government of the day, I beg to submit that Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is delivering.
In order to enhance social services and entrench good governance, security and justice ought to be functional in a state and Gov. Ugwuanyi is yet to be found wanting in the area of security as admitted by the Christian Association of Nigeria during their recent visit to the Governor when they attested to the fact that” Enugu State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.” And what do make of a governor whose state has been recognised as one of the most ” economically viable” and ” investment friendly” ?. Okwesilieze Nwodo was quite correct when he called the governor ” a fantastic manager of resources.” If the optimum welfare of the people is not part of Gov Ugwuanyi’s agenda, why would he introduce 13th month salary for the state workers including their minimum wage?
Having prioritised rural development, GOV.UGWUANYI smartly domiciled most of his road infrastructure in our villages and today the whole seventeen local government councils of the state have more than five road projects to show. But that is not to show that Gov. Ugwuanyi left urban roads unattended to and in all, Gburugburu has constructed almost six hundred kilometres of roads right round the state and still counting. What else do we call good governance?
Understanding that the security of lives and properties is the fulcrum of every state machinery, Gov. Ugwuanyi did not hesitate to rejig the security paraphernalia of the state, ; energizing the Neighbourhood Watch, constituting the Forest Guards and mobilizing and supporting all the security outfits in the state with modern gadgets for efficient delivery?
What of the billion naira reconstruction, renovation and accreditation of courses ongoing at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu and massive transformation of Enugu State Polytechnic at Ezeagu? Do we still to remind people about the impressive renovation of our primary and secondary schools that have been going on throughout the state? The list just keep going but all I can say is that Rt.Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, the executive governor of Enugu State is not just delivering but FULFILLING.
ENUGU STATE IS IN THE HANDS OF GOD.
