It was like a dream come true for the people of Igbo-Eze North Council area of Enugu State when the government of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi fulfilled it’s promise to the people in the area of provision of critical infrastructures and amenities meant to uplift the living standards of the rural dwellers. What happened in Ogrute, the headquarters of Igbo-Eze North council could be likened to what happened to the Biblical Hannah, the mother of Samuel who acknowledged God for hearkening to her long awaited prayers for a fruit of the womb. The people of Enugu Ezike in Igbo-Eze North reputed to be the second largest town in Nigeria after Ibadan had often lamented government’s epileptic presence in it’s domain with little or no critical infrastructures was to chant Ugwuanyi’s praises to high heaven for breaking the jinx of total neglect by successive governments.
It is imperative to mention some of these places in Enugu Ezike where social amenities like portable water supply, good road networks, electricity etc are totally non-existent till the government of Ugwuanyi demonstrated uncommon zeal to change the narrative for good. They are Ikpuiga, Iyionu, Ogbodu etc.
In a rare show of integrity and purposefulness in governance, governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi took some bold steps to rehabilitate and build some new roads in Enugu Ezike. They are Japan Road, Umuidah Road, Old Aji Road, Igogoro Road, Amufie Road and Ogrute Urban Roads. Japan road for example leads to the only police station in Igboeze North LGA and had been in a grievous state of disrepair for some donkey years without any government attention. People who ply Japan road has had to suffer untold hardship as a result of the bad shape of the road. The state of the Japan road have often affected the efficiency of Igbo-Eze North Divisional police equally in carrying out their responsibilities. It is important to note also that all the rehabilitated roads leads to one of the biggest market in Igboeze North ( Eke Ozzi in Ogrute). On a typical market day, it is always very hectic to pass through the market owing to congestions caused by human and vehicular traffic and bad state of the road joined together. Several lives and goods worth millions of Naira have been lost as a result of the scenario painted above. Lorries ferrying goods over these roads have often upturned and had caused extensive damage to properties and movements around the affected areas.
Today, governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi has proven what a dedicated and purposeful government can do with our common wealth. Today, the people of Enugu Ezike are rejoicing because a capacity and a passionate leader is on the throne and so their pains of several years have been wrestled to the ground.
Accessing the biggest hospital in Igboeze North LGA and the oldest general hospital in old Nsukka political zone was often a herculean task owing to poor road networks. Today it has become another biggest beneficiary of the rehabilitated roads in the area and the people of the area cannot but beat their chests in ecstasy.
While formally Inaugurating these flagship infrastructures, governor Ugwuanyi had promised those communities that are yet to sight government presence to remain steadfast and faithful, because their time would surely come. They include such communities like Ikpuiga, Umu- Adonu Owo, Igbelle, Amachalla, Amaja etc. The people had equally expressed their optimism that the government of Ugwuanyi would surely fulfill the same promise as he has always done.
Truly, Enugu State is in the hands of God.
