Aristotle once wrote, “it is more difficult to organize a peace than to win a war; but the fruits of victory will be lost if the peace is not organized”. Most times in Nigeria, we assess good governance by the number of roads, schools, and what other physical projects constructed within specified period in office.
Little does an average Nigerian care about the effort, resources, and what have you a government of the day put up in other to have peace instituted among all divides of a local government, state government or at the federal level.
It must have been on the cognizance of Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi’s deliberate and overwhelming conscious effort to take peace as part of his led administration’s major pillars of transformational leadership that earned the Enugu state Governor attention of some international communities.
The Big Story: Nigerian Community in Turkey, Turkish Investors, Turkish Businessmen, Turkish Political Leaders, Turkish Investors and others held a rally that saw hundreds of Nigerians and Turkish citizens who came out enmass to show their love for His Excellency, Rt Hon. Dr Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu state, Nigeria. The rally took place live in Turkey on September 25.
According to Hon Bibian Anekwe, the Senior Special Assistant to Enugu State Governor on Empowerment and Mobilization who represented her principal at the rally, Governor Ugwuanyi, popularly known as Gburugburu was ravished with 7 Awards by these wonderful people in Turkey who appreciate his style of leadership anchored on peace.
The event which took place at NEYZEN KumkapiCapariz SK, Kumkapi-Istanbul Turkey saw the Governor receiving 7 Awards as “the Most Peaceful Governor of the Year 2021” from different organizations.
Bibian Anekwe: “I was flabbergasted on the amount of love shown to the Governor yesterday. I shed tears of joy in my room on the overwhelming admiration people in Turkey have for His Excellency.
“I never knew Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration has touched so much people enough to earn such love and accolades I received on his behalf yesterday”.
Ochenwari’s Aside: “Peace is liberty in tranquility”, said Marcus Tullius Cicero in one of his popular speech. John F. Kennedy asserted that peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.”
Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration has seen to the unification of all the political parties in Enugu state by gradually engaging all to the extent that every one sees Her or himself as part of the government, hence, no need to disrupt the peaceful process. It takes a great skill to achieve this.
Enugu State Government has made sure that all the tribes resident in Enugu, including the Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani communities are appointed and made part of the government of the day. Ugwuanyi’s style of government has seen sons and daughters of nobody given appointment to occupy sensitive positions in the state. The administration has engaged almost all the different youth organisations in the state.
All the above mentioned must have been Governor Ugwuanyi’s systematic planned approach towards tackling security challenges in the state to install and maintain peaceful coexistence among residence and interest groups.
Enugu State Governor’s leadership approach makes monument of J. Donald Walters’ opinion that you will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but by confronting them courageously. You will find peace not in denial, but in victory.
Truly, Enugu State is in the hands of God.
