Many come to power with specified agenda to develop selected sectors of national life. But it takes only a gifted few to muster the courage to develop a workable plan of tackling development across all sectors simultaneously. In the recent history, it was only Peter Obi who did it in Anambra while his tenure lasted. He launched a program called Anambra integrated development strategy (ANIDS) with the motto: “Developing all sectors simultaneously.”
That was the secret of his evergreen success as governor of the state.
In the current Enugu state government, His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has adopted a more actionable policy that ensures unlimited development of the state across all sectors at the same time. This was why all the ministries are busy with countless projects trying to catch up with the speed of His Excellency’s state-wide development programs.
All sectors are witnessing terrifying innovative drives; and the state ministry of sports and youth development are not left out. Ministries of Lands and Housing, Works, Power, Education, Water resources, Justice etc are all being given priority attention by the governor.
In a matter of months, the ministry of youths and sports will be hosting glamourous ceremony to commission two ultra modern stadia in Enugu north and West senatorial zones. Nsukka and Oji River township stadium would standout as two of the many indelible signatures of this administration on the sands of time; not just because of the superior quality of materials used there, but because of the importance and speed of execution of the project.
According to recent press release on the state of the projects: “the 5,000-seat capacity Township Stadium at Nsukka, Enugu State, is at the final stage of completion following the successful installation of AstroTurf, Tartan Tracks, Seats, and flood-light stands, as well as ongoing pavement works, courtesy of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration.
“The construction of another befitting Township Stadium in Oji River Local Government Area was aptly captured in the 2022 budget, in furtherance of Gov. Ugwuanyi administration’s commitment to promoting and encouraging grassroots sports development and youth empowerment in the state.”
5,000 capacity stadiums constructed across senatorial zones is no mean feat. It can only be achieved by someone who sees power as a machinery to serve, not be served, avenue to do good, not wreck havoc. Like Paul Harris submitted: “personality has power to uplift, power to depress, power to curse, and power to bless,” Governor Ugwuanyi has, within his spell in government built for himself, a personality that uplifts his people and blesses their lots.
