ONE MAJOR REASON SUPPORTERS OF GOV UGWUANYI’S ADMINISTRATION SHOULD BE PROUD SYCOPHANTS; IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND
A wise one once said in Igbo, “Onye choro iri awo rikwaa nke gbara agba, nke o ga bu a kpoo ya ori awo o za”. Many a time I have read some detractors of His Excellency, Rt Hon Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi’s administration label persons who appear to be lovers of the good governance initiative of the “Nwoke Obioma” in the Lions Building “Sycophants”. Many a time, I have, as well, read these good ladies and gentlemen trying to disassociate themselves from the phrase “sycophants of Governor Ugwuanyi” because, its denotative semantic implication spells contradictory to the hard earned uprightness cum integrity which those good men and ladies of goodwill of Enugu residence represent.
Are you a lover of Gburus’ struggle to liberate the poor masses in Enugu? Are you tired of defending yourself against some paid detractors of the on-going good governance agenda? It is about time we saw the good side of the word, “political sycophancy”, ndi oma. Fortunately, there is nothing good the present administration will do to satisfy the detractors. If these group hear or read that Governor Ugwuanyi’s led administration provided 1000 jobs for 1000 Enugu residents, they will find fault in it. If they read that Governor Ugwuanyi, through the office of his SPA on SME, Arinze Chilo-offiah provides soft loans to Enugu youths and students, they will find fault in it. If they see the roads leading to their kitchens being tarred by Enugu Government, they will find fault in it. If you tell them that governor Ugwuanyi has constructed more than 3,000 roads as a Governor, they will ask you, “and so what? Do you expect I clap for a governor for road construction?”. You will even be surprised that they might travel to Aba in Abia state to bring pictures of an agelong dilapidating Ohanku and Ngwa Roads in Aba North LGA and label them Enugu roads just to demean Governor Ugwuanyi’s effort and deceive gullible minds who don’t ask questions.
Dear folks, if appreciation to our project driven, humility personified Governor, the hope of the hopeless, the action governor, the Talk-Na-Do Governor, the empowerer of youths, children, women, and the aged, the Project Obsessed Governor, the ambassador of peace and workaholic leader implies obsequious behaviour towards His Excellency in order to gain advantage, intensify it. Increase the volume of your sycophancy from today. Because, if you allow them, they will use criticism to demoralise our peace loving Governor. Our elders said, “e kenee onye akidi, o gwota ozo”. Late Chinua Achebe, in Things Fall Apart wrote thus: “A man who calls his kinsmen to a feast does not do so to save them from starving. They all have food in their own homes. When we gather together in the moonlit village ground it is not because of the moon. Every man can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so.” Therefore, my people, when we remind our governor that we acknowledge his good work, it doesn’t mean that he can’t do without our appreciation. It does not mean that His Excellency can’t do without praises from his kind supporters. No. He can do without it. But, because, it is in our tradition to acknowledge hardwork and kind gesture. Hence, my honorable fellow sycophants, there is no shame in doing good. There are governors in Nigeria who don’t pay salaries, they exist, but, we have a governor who does not joke with salaries of both civil servants and those of political appointees. He even chose to pay 13th month salaries since he came to office.
If appreciation to a governor whose administration has seen to the construction of more than 3,000 roads in Enugu means playing sycophancy to him, God make us all sycophants of good leadership that has taken democracy to the grassroot.
Sometimes, when they think that “sycophancy” doesn’t affect your emotional disposition again, they will call you “mad” or “a lunatic”. In the voice of the persona in Kobena Eyi Acquah’s IN THE NAVEL OF THE SOUL, “they say we have gone all out of our mind… If madness nurtures such lucidity… God, make us mad –make us even more mad”.
If giving honor to a man who has given empowerment to more than 50,000 youths in Enugu means madness, God make us even more mad. God make us all become sycophants so that we won’t crucify leaders who lead up-to expectations. _”Scientia Relum, Per Ultima Causa” solving Problems from its root cause.
