OUT THERE, UNKNOWN GUN Men – IN HERE, UNGUNNED KNOWN MEN.

Crises in Nigeria have so much escalated in the recent days that it is no longer breaking news rather an expected news. Things have got so bad that every body is living in fear. Both big and not so big, rich and poor, educated and illiterates are feeling the heat. Fear is literally walking on the street and no one to arrest it.
In the years gone by, the name Boko Haram evokes fear of high magnitude until recently, the nomenclature changed to Herdsmen and herders while modus operandi remains largely the same. They would always leave terror in their wake. As if those ones are not enough, we were told that foreign herders and mercenaries have joined in killing us and want to take our lands. Not too long after that, the narrative changed to armed bandits. Today a new sherrif have joined them and it is referred to as “unknown gun men”.
Surprisingly, this last arrival (unknown gun men) have been attacking every where. Others used to be very active in Northeast, Northwest and Northcentral. This last one has universal outlook. They are attacking every where.
But come to think of it, how are they unknown? They gather somewhere, someone talks with them, they receives supplies of foods and ammunitions. They are treated by health practitioners when they are sick, etc, then how are they unknown or is this a cover up name?. Well, this is not the kernel of my discussion here.

In the midst of these crises, there is a state that have ungunned known men instead of unknown gun men. That state is Enugu State.

There have been harvest of crises in virtually every part of Nigeria. In the South East here, the story is not friendly and rossy at all. Unknown gun men have been on rampage in Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Rivers, Delta, Benue, Taraba and other states. All around Enugu State, it has been a gory tale but in Enugu, there is a shelter in the storm. Enugu have remained peaceful irrespective of the harsh and deadly activities of the rampaging unknown gun men.

In the recent time, their prime targets have remained the security operatives, it’s outfits and formations. They have been killing police officers and burning down police stations, prison houses and personnels, they have attacked everywhere but Enugu state. It is a true confirmation of the fact that Enugu is God’s hands through the instrumentality of a master strategist as our governor.

In Ebonyi state, the battle have been in two fronts. Incessant Community clashes and the herders/bandits/unknown gun men. They have grown so much wing to the extent of waiting for the State governor at a project site at Onueke. They have attacked not less than five police formations and killed many police officers.

In each of the states around Enugu, not fewer than three police stations each have been burnt and ransacked by these evil men. None have happened in Enugu. Some correctional centers have been attacked, none happened in Enugu. A siting governors house was attacked in a neighbouring state. Enugu is calm. Not even a councilor’s house was attacked. A sitting governor in another state once ran away from his state and took shelter else where for fear of unknown gun men but not so in Enugu.

In Enugu, the men here are ungunned. We know their faces and they know ours. We all are not armed and so play with each other. We quarrel but we do not fight.
This is all courtesy of pragmatic efforts of Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. He provided such cool environment that everyone is enjoying. People are running away from other state to take shelter in Enugu. Gov Ugwuanyi understand the effect of unknown gun men in the society and have worked hard to reverse it. He had given us men we know that are without gun (ungunned known men). We cannot thank him enough. That is why we agree with him that Enugu State is in the safe hand of God.
