The Abia State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Bende Station in Abia with two operatives sustaining gunshot wounds.
It was gathered that the hoodlums, numbering about 100 who attacked the station, burnt down the facility at about 11pm on Wednesday.
They also razed a car, and three motorcycles parked within the premises.
Confirming the incident, the Abia State Police spokesman, SP Godfrey Ogbonna, said two officers were shot in the leg and the attackers also burnt down the generator house as well as a multi-purpose building, belonging to Bende Local Government.
The attacking hoodlums also released criminals who were detained at the station.
“They also burnt two vehicles, including the Divisional Police Officer’s Highlander Jeep and three motorcycles, parked at the station.
“We do not know yet how they all gathered to execute the attack at the station.
“Maybe they parked their vehicles away from their target and walked through footpaths to the place,” he said.
A full investigation into the incident and other recent gunmen attacks in different parts of the state.
In another development, a 200-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Feranmi Fasunle Omowunmi, has committed suicide.
The development was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Victor Akinpelumi.
A student of the institution, who spoke with Daily Trust on the condition of anonymity, noted that the student who was in the Department of Political Science drank sniper with garri on Wednesday.
She was said to have been taken to the health centre of the school from where she was referred to a government hospital where she died.
