The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one of its operatives for the alleged killing of a 19-year-old barber, Jonah Samson.
Information gathered revealed that the trigger happy policeman, shot the innocent barber on Saturday, October 3 in the Dutse-Apo area of Abuja.
Further information has it that the officer had stormed the area, shooting into the air and threatened to kill one or two people. When members of the community tried to stop him, he allegedly fired another shot that hit the barber.
The barber was later pronounced dead at the hospital where he was rushed to after been hit by the bullet.
Confirming the sad incident, a statement by ASP Yusuf Mariam of the FCT Police Command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Ciroma, has ordered an investigation into the incident and that the accused police officer has been arrested and will be charged accordingly.
The statement added that findings will be made public after investigations are concluded.
“The Police Officer identified to have shot the deceased has been arrested, detained and will be charged accordingly.
“While commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police wishes to guarantee members of the public that the Command will be lucid in its investigation and ensure the findings are made public,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, it will be recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered the immediate ban on some activities of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) and other tactical units within the force.
The IGP in a statement on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, noted that some of their activities are against the rules that set them up. He warned that any operative that disobeys the new directive will be dealt with acordingly.
