“Social cohesion refers to the extent of connectedness and solidarity among groups in society. It identifies two main dimensions: the sense of belonging of a community and the relationships among members within the community itself. It stems from a democratic effort to establish social balance, economic dynamism, and national identity, with the goals of founding a system of equity, sustaining the impulses of uncontrolled economic growth, and avoiding social fractures”
Ugwuanyi administration has intensified effort in his commitment to build an egalitarian society through consolidated plurality of citizenship by eliminating inequality and socio-economic inbalances and fractures in the State. His distributive character of oneness of people has reflected on his agenda on developing all the nook and cranny of Enugu State. He has given every individual in the state not minding the class one belong a sense of belonging and through acceptance of all people brought non-state actors together. He has through transformational leadership, restore social justice, economic emancipation and fair siting of development projects and political appointment to all zones in the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi style of leadership has managed to a greater heights the pluralistic nature of the Nigeria society through social cohesion and this has given other tribes a sense of belonging in the state. His administration commitment on oneness of people has established golden rules for resolving all conflicts in the State without blood shed and his early warning intervention in conflict is second to none in Nigeria.
Governor Ugwuanyi has through his purposeful leadership in Enugu State established four dimensional approach which binds the people together and shall be highlighted here.
1. Social Relationship: The administration commitment in ensuring peaceful coexistence has increased political participation in the state. This is possible because of the annihilation of politics of tigbuo; zogbuo which characterise our political culture then. Citizens now have say in what goes on in their political system and through this, established a social network among citizens and non citizens of the State. The administration focus on cohesiveness of our society has increased people of Enugu State tolerating and accepting other tribes which has boasted peaceful coexistence in the State. It also made it easy in settling conflicts among the people. Through the dynamic approach of Governor Ugwuanyi in the State has made the people in accepting his administration policies in all areas with high degree of trust given to him as he steers the affairs of the State.
2. Connectedness: The administration of Governor Ugwuanyi has through the years build a legacy as citizens and non citizens of the State now have sense of belonging. This is because of the elimination of discrimination and marginalization. The governor has through zoning established political stability across the state and have continued to give each zones of the State their shares in power distribution and development economy.
3. Orientation Towards the Common Good: The administration has automatically changed the old political order of seeing political office as a means to an end and accumulation of wealth to service to humanity. This is possible because of the prudent financial management of the governor and his policy of blocking all the leakages through which state fund is being diverted into personal purse. This singular policy has disarrayed some of the enemies of the State who came in to suck the state dry but could not find their way hence formed oppositions of the policy. To the the glory of God, our amiable governor is not deterred in delivery dividend of democracy to the people of the State. Today, the new order in Enugu State is political culture of peace where dialogue has become the only tool for political balancing. This new order had given voice to the voiceless and made political participation more encouraging than what was obtainable in the past.
4. Equality: The administration has created equality between the have and have not and through political zoning, consolidated power to minorities in the grassroots who have been marginalized for long. This attitude has created a peaceful atmosphere in our state and addressed the challenges of inequality that characterise our political system. It has also given voice to the minority unlike before when majority Lord them out in all political positions. This administration has given hope to the hopeless and through appointment of youths in strategic positions of authority reawaken youth consciousness in the State.
Ndi Enugu State, this administration have shown to us the beauty of creation by seeing everyone in the state as Image of God (Mmadu) which has bind us together and have established a sense of belonging in the State. Let us continue giving the administration every support for a better tomorrow. Support to Governor Ugwuanyi is support for peaceful coexistence in Enugu State.
