Good Governance is relatively a new concept in the political arena which found it’s way in 80s as good number of less developed countries are struggling to deal with the political and economic problems resulting from poor Political leadership in their country. ” Good Governance could be refers to a system of government based on good leadership, respect for the rule of law and due processes, the accountability of the political leadership to the electorate as well as transparency in the operations of government”.
The major key points in the definition above are Transparency and Accountability which will be the focus of our discussion as it relates to the current administration in Enugu State. In every society, purposeful leadership is Paramount in achieving good governance in such society. It is through effective leadership that a society or group of individuals can succeed in attaining their Political, Economic and Social objective of such society as we are witnessing in Enugu State under Governor Ugwuanyi who have through purposeful leadership motivated people to collectively work together aimed at actualizing an agreed objectives and using the lean public resources in the State disposal to develop the State.
However, Governor Ugwuanyi has redefined governance in the State through the application of morality in every stages of his leadership which has brought the administration in standing tall above the previous administration’s in the State. Through purposeful leadership restored hope in the political system and through innovation and inventions established a digital economy in the State and through integration achieved Social Cohesion of all people in the State. This is possible because of the transparency in the operations of his government were the activities are made open before the people, easy to understand and explicit manner, such that the rules made by his government, the policies implemented by the government and the results of governments activities are easy to verify by the ordinary citizen. To consolidate on the tenets of transparency, due process become a Hallmark in achieving it. The administration applied transparency in award of contracts to contractors and does not employ mediocre in the expense of meritocracy in it’s affair as it concerns governance in the State. In areas of awarding contracts, it is open to as many competitors as possible and the administration always shun politics of sons of the soil in his determination to get the best in job execution.
The Covid 19 regime and it’s aftermath made so many States in Nigeria to stop executing capital projects but not in the same case with Enugu State were the administration applied transparency in all her dealings through which lots of money are being saved. The captain, Governor Ugwuanyi seeing the lean resources in his disposal, ensures that the available resources are being used adequately rather than embezzlement.
Governor Ugwuanyi has through transparency in his leadership disposition gained more trust from the people of Enugu State and admirers from outsider the State . It is on this scenario that many people are looking forward from him in contesting the number one position in Nigeria because of the wider dictum of One Good Turns; Deserves Another. Nigeria as a country is clamouring for a good and better leadership and Governor Ugwuanyi remain the only hope of restoring the lost hope in Nigeria politics as he made transparency one of the principle of his leadership. Let us support his administration for more robust action in delivery good governance in the State.
