Taking cure from the above definition, Governor Ugwuanyi accountability in the State is second to none. The policies and programmes adopted and implemented by his government are usually those that the majority of the electorate has accepted.
To achieve accountability in the current administration, governor Ugwuanyi granted legislative autonomy to the legislative arms which is a first of its kind in the State. This autonomy has made it possible for the legislature to be able to carryout it’s watch dog functions effectively. This made the law making body to easily checks and balances actions of the executive branch and other public officials without fear.
The current administration policies and programmes are not shrouded in secrecy but has made every information more accessible by interested citizens and other organizations who want to Know what is going on in the government and determined the levels of implementation on the day to day running of the government against what is obtainable in the past.
In other to have accountability in his leadership, governor Ugwuanyi brought in transparent public servants who are ready to account for their conduct in office and take responsibility there of. This he made through a careful and meritocratic selection of his cabinets to be people of high integrity. This has added another advantage to the administration effort of ensuring good governance in the State. This is because the people he appointed into various positions came in to render services to the people of the State than looking for money to embezzle. The responsibility covers the ideas and conceptions upon which the utilization of State resources are based as well as the outcomes or results of their actions are highly accountable in their various ministries and parastatal which has helped Governor Ugwuanyi in delivery dividend of democracy in the State.
However, to further ensure accountability in the State, the Governor reformed the judiciary through the appointment of reliable judicial officials to man our various courts in the State which has helped in restoring hope of the common man who saw the judiciary as their last hope against what is obtainable in the past were court judgement was bazar sales that goes to the highest bidder. This has restored rule of law which have helped the state to attain sustainable economic development within the six years of the current administration.
Finally, governor Ugwuanyi has shown leadership in his six years as the governor through various intervention scheme’s especially in Rural-Urban Renewal and youths emancipation through empowerment and will continue to consolidate on this till the end of his tenure. A support to Governor Ugwuanyi is a support to good governance in Enugu State.
