As May 29, 2021 is fast approaching, the people oriented Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and a visionary leader par excellence will mark his 6th year’s anniversary in the office. The 6th anniversary of the current administration has provided us the opportunity to reappraise and evaluate the governors signature projects across the State which are mostly anchored on peace and genuine service delivery of good governance, despite the many challenges facing the country.
Governor Ugwuanyi administration has kept the ground steaming to ensure that all critical sectors of the State economy are given adequate attention. It is a fact that no society or government survives without money. Ugwuanyi’s administration has steadily ensured increase in the IGR of the state to beef up the federal allocations to enable it cope with the ever increasing developmental projects.
It must be mentioned that the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation (ESHDC) under the innovative leadership of Mr. Chiemelie Lambert Agu is one agency of the government that has performed creditably well in revenue generation via new commercial approaches to business with a western orientation. Mr. Chiemelie Lambert Agu made a bold statement by applying his western orientation as a professional in the housing sector to reposition the sector in line with the current administration’s agenda on affordable housing to the people of the State. He has championed the housing policy of the current administration by ensuring that houses are affordable to low income earners in the State and also ensured that the houses meet international standard and specifications. It was on the basis of this giant strides of Ugwuanyi’s administration that the Economic Confidential in it’s 2019 Annual State Viability Index, released on July 26, 2020, listed Enugu among the 6th economically viable States in Nigeria that has zero dependency in Federal Allocation. It is in the same vein that the National Bureau of Statistics released it’s 2019 reports which placed Enugu State as the top ranking State in Internally Generated Revenue despite the fact that Enugu State is not an oil producing state but came 9th as the best performing State in terms of IGR.
Again, the Ugwuanyi administration through it’s peace building mechanism in the State brought an unprecedented peace in the State which has placed the State as the most advanced and peaceful State in Nigeria on the Ease of Doing Business and third on the Ease of starting business. The Economic restructuring and the blockage of financial leakages of the current administration has reduced embezzlement of fund by public officials. The result of such efforts have yielded unquantifiable values to Ndi Enugu.
Enugu State under Governor Ugwuanyi is the fifth most competitive State and most debt sustainable state in Nigeria according to National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria despite the humongous debt profile inherited from the previous administrations. His administration never thrusted its efforts in loan acquisition but believed strongly in harnessing the mineral and human resources of the state to boast revenue generation in the State.
