Enugu state has truly become a bride everyone wishes to court courtesy of the dynamic leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The administration have indeed done exceptionally well in all the sectors of State economic firmament despite the lean resources at it’s disposal.
Governor Ugwuanyi has turned to be an icon of sort while holding court in the Lion Building. Many citizens including the opposition elements have continued to attest to his numerous achievements in office. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi became a governor at a time Nigeria is groveling under sickening and frustrating economic woes and security challenges and yet his commitments towards navigating Enugu State to our collective dreams and visions is quite cheery.
At the celebration of the 2019 Democracy Day held at Okpara Square, the Governor recalled that the laudable goals his government have been able to achieve appeared impossible at the time of embarking on such projects owing to the realities on ground including very huge and suffocating debt burden owed contractors and other recurrent expenditure profiles such as salaries of workers and pension and gratuities of retired civil servants. In retrospect, the governor seemed to even marvel at his little and modest efforts. But that is a leader with conscience and clear conviction that he is in government to contribute to the building, development and growth of his society.
The governor’s genuine leadership style at this time of economic challenges has made him a prudent manager of both human and economic resources; a visionary and grassroots leader. His scorecard in the last six years has become a daily hymn recited in the nooks and crannies of the state by numerous supporters appreciating his leadership ingenuity and passion for more trajectories.
The administration agenda have always hinged on the following; employment generation, social services and good governance, rural development, security and social justice. In his six years far as the state Captain, governor Ugwuanyi have conscientiously striven to fulfill his visions for a better Enugu State. The achievements of the current administration have received accolades beyond the borders of the state and from reputable organizations which have discreetly assessed his government’s performances.
The achievements of the current administration is a product of meticulous planning, prudence and beneficial application of resources. To get himself financially armed for the enormous challenges, Gov. Ugwuanyi had to change the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state from its poor earnings to an appreciable level of generation and remittance to support development initiatives and so from a paltry N14 billion in 2016 to N18.4 billion and to a record of N22 billion in 2017.
To create an enabling environment for business to thrive in the state, Gov. Ugwuanyi pursued his dream for a boisterous economy and rewarding investments for Enugu state, organized the first Enugu State Economic Summit in history tagged ‘Oganiru’ and since then, the summit has attracted the in-flow of investors far and near to the state.
Interestingly, the Governor commits whatever allocation accruing to the state to massive Rural-Urban transformation. The administration passion for rural dwellers has made the administration sought to change the narrative in order to put smiles on their faces through projects interventions in the areas of road networking, improved primary health care services, direct grant for rural farmers to boost food production in the state and other rural interventions. Development has reached even to Communities that did not have the usual big wigs to influence any development to their region until the divine coming of Ugwuanyi.
The administration has also launched the programme of continuous road maintenance in Enugu metropolis christened “Operation Zero Potholes” and the Enugu Clean Team Project as part of measures to enforce urban renewal and cleanliness of Enugu city. These initiatives are yielding the much desired result as the potholes are fast disappearing.
There is no doubt that Gov. Ugwuanyi has written his name on the sands of time, as a Governor who resolved in ensuring the realization of Enugu of our dream.
