THE FUSS ABOUT GOVERNOR’S PENSION BILL BY ENUGU STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
They have come again, yes the harbingers of ills hovering over the political space. Media prosecutors are also fighting tooth and nail to regain paymasters trust. The conspiracy theory is heavy against a man of compassionate soul. Enugu State political atmosphere tensed again. Will they succeed in this urge for blackmail? No!
There’s no dispute as to the truth of the fact that exhumation of Governor’s Pension law which had been in existence for decades and now a proposed amendment Bill before the House of Assembly was to disrepute as well pitch Governor Ugwuanyi with the people of the State as an avaricious office holder. If this law existed with little knowledge of the citizens, why is the Media overzealous in making it pronounced and fault picking in Gburugburu’s time. These traducers perhaps need tutorial in the Constitutional legitimation of the acts of the House of Assembly.
By virtue of Section 4(6) of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) legislative functions rest on House of Assembly of a State exercisable in Subsection 7. Also Section 124(5) provides for Pension and Gratuity for Governors and Deputies which shall be a charge on the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State. In strictest terms, subsection 3 used “Shall” a compelling duty.
This sudden briskness of these self-acclaimed democrats betrays intention.
That such a law exist before now holds true the sudden slackness of civil societies, our impoverished judiciary and low morale on the side of conscionable statesmen who ought to have raised revocation dust decades ago, particularly in 2007 when it was passed. Onslaught on the Governor by those salaried jobbers is manifestly unjustifiable and fly in the face of statutorily authorities.
What then is my submission? Simple; from the little I know of Gburu’s moral rectitude which is not hidden from the public eyes as well, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is innocent of this Bill. His good works pervades every nook and crannies of the state and counting. If Pension Bill is the way for Enugu citizens to pay tribute and gratitude for every governor’s services to the State, then the time has come for governors to strive assiduously in etching their names in the hearts of the people by creating massive sustainable and developmental projects across boards as Ugwuanyi has done…for one good turn deserves another, the people will put them into a space of higher responsibility where they can make up for deficiency in savings from legitimate renumeration as serving governors.
BIBIAN ANEKWE NEWS ADDED”at this juncture, Ndi Enugu state know His Excellency Gov ifeanyi ugwuanyi( Mr Fulfilment) as a man of peace and justice. He will do the NEEDFUL. “LET US SAY NO TO POLITICAL JOBBERS/ MEDIA PROSECUTORS AND THEIR PAYMASTERS WHO BELIEVES THAT 2023 GOVERNORSHIP IS A DO OR DIE AFFAIR” Enugu state is a peaceful state and any man or woman who’s against this peaceful atmosphere are enemies of the state
