It is no longer news that Gov. ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was the only South Eastern governor that was physically present in the just concluded Southern Governors Forum in Lagos State, perhaps what is important and interesting in the passion of one leader of the people who delights in the pursuit of good for his people. There is absolutely no forum or summit of strategic importance that he has ever failed to attend howbeit his tight schedules. An Igbo man is known by his industry and forward looking disposition, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has proven to be a one Igbo who is enthusiastic about his Igboness and his pan-Igbo ideology. Make no mistake about it, Gburu-Gburu is ever interested in discussing at the negotiating table in order to bring about peaceful resolution of issues as it were any day, any time. Oh! how I love this Igbo leader par excellence.
In view of what we are passing through today in Nigeria politically, one would have believed that all the governors of South East extraction will be there with there deputies and SSGs if such is allowed, to thicken their voices to the on going debate on wither Nigeria politically in 2023 when the tenure of the incumbent kisses the dust. Ironically, the other South East leaders chose to remain ensconced in their blighted offices and feel greatly unconcerned. Pray! Does a man whose house is engulfed in a raging inferno go about ambushing rats seeking shelter elsewhere? This is unlikely, yet, the houses built by the southerners are on fire or so it seems especially those of the South-East, yet while other Southern governors felt so profound to address issues that will benefit their enclave politically, only one South East Governor felt obligated to be in attendance to represent the interest of his people. This is truly encouraging. The actions of the other South East governors are truly worrisome and calls for serious scrutiny from all well meaning Igbos. May be we should be able to identify their true positions in all these.
Conversely, governor Ugwuanyi’s interest in all these speaks volumes of his massive passion for the Igbo nation. The issues of governance as it is presently might not be too rosy for most of the governors owing to the multifaceted security challenges in their enclave, but Governor Ugwuanyi shrugged these issues off to lend his voice to what would ultimately change the narrative for good not only in the southern region which the Eastern zone is part of but the entire nation at large.
It need be hyped at this juncture that within the time the Southern governors forum met in Lagos state few weeks ago, there were two incidents of high profiled assassination in Enugu metropolis, the seat of government, but governor Ugwuanyi was unfazed not necessarily because he care less but because what must be done must be done. When the Asaba Summit was held about two months back in which far reaching decisions were reached, Ugwuanyi was there in person and made valuable contributions.
In many issues that concern the welfare and future of his people, Gov Ugwuanyi is always there in person and not by delegation thus becoming a unifying factor and a voice for the South East.
It is on record that when the entire South Eastern states met and agreed on a regional security outfit about two years ago, it is only governor Ugwuanyi that set up a structure to that effect. He did it when other governors are foot dragging on their resolutions. The issue of Ebubeagu regional security outfit have been on the table for over two years, today it is even getting under the table. He set up the forest guards and neighborhood watch outfits to help the regular police force and local vigilante groups. These have helped so much in security, peace, commerce and development of Enugu State.
Gov Ugwuanyi’s passion for the best for his people is truly unmatched. He is evenly distributing democracy dividends to his people. He believes that Enugu is home for all Igbos and he had been building on it since his assumption of power. That is why we are solidly behind him and is proud to say that Enugu State is in the hand of God.
