THE TRIPARTITE NATURE OF SOCIAL CONTRACT OF UGWUANYI ADMINISTRATION VOL. 1
The current administration in Enugu State came on board with peace mantra because of the principle nature of our amiable governor Akidi Ama Oke Ala defined in Igwebuike movement which help in uniting actors and non-state actors together through a political peace dialogue. This has banked so much on peaceful political atmosphere the state is enjoying today through the charismatic style of Ugwuanyi who advanced mmekoritalism in the State.
Ugwuanyi administration has through Social Cohesion created understanding among all the political zones in Enugu State. This is a process of groups having solidarity to each other that is defined in their unity of purpose aimed at achieving common objectives or goals. Social cohesion is multidimensional in approach because of its dynamic nature, instrumental basis and emotions that result from such interaction. The dynamism of it has to do with changes that occurs in group interaction over a given period of time. In Nigeria, groups interactions have been in a continuous trial since the country got her independence. Through Social cohesion brought by Ugwuanyi administration, it has enables stakeholders of each local government to come together and form common front to enable them tackle a common existential challenges before the governor which is another score card of Mr. Fulfilment. It therefore means that the cohesiveness of this nature will bring peaceful coexistence among all in the State. It has helped in taking recognition of each local government challenges with effort; aimed at actualizing the common task with the help of the governor. As a result of governors’ effort for peaceful coexistence, it has encouraged tolerance because in groups interaction, different characters are played out and it is only through tolerance that the group will survive storm of division. Understanding each groups personality trait and background helps in shaping relationship which breeds peaceful coexistence.
Social cohesion does not encourage hegemonic powers or domination of others but allows freedom of association and expression.
In Enugu State, true social cohesion has enhanced cooperation of all groups which the administration of Ugwuanyi protects their various interests and right in the social contract. Social cohesion is a task his administration committed which focused on improving human relations. The instrumental basis of it means the reasons behind developmental strides in Enugu and the emotions are the feelings each member of the group attach to his/her group that is making the peaceful coexistence possible. There are Dimensions of Social Cohesion which the administration of Ugwuanyi created which include:
Material Condition: His administration provided a better living conditions to all the citizens both indigene and non-indigene and created equal economic opportunities devoid of discrimination, intimidation and marginalization hence Enugu State is peaceful. The administration provided social amenities to all sections of the State including the Hausa community in the State which is foundations of a strong social fabric and an indication of social progress for all.
In passive relationship in Enugu State, the administration provided security and freedom of expression/movement to all groups in the State. This gesture of the governor has promoted our social bond which increases peaceful coexistence. The government is working for the common good. And in active relationship, through his administration peaceful disposition, it created environment of mutual trust. His stance in coexistence shows that groups interdependency which helps them to achieve nation building is possible when each group realised that our diversity is our strength in the comity of nations. He admonished all to respect and recognize each other’s contribution in the advancement of human relation aimed at building strong State.
In solidarity inclusion, his administration has succeeded in the integration of each group into the mainstream institutions of governance in Enugu State devoid of political repression. This has given each group the sense of one State which makes them feel at home in the State which has promoted peaceful coexistence.
In Equality, his administration has created room for fairness and justice in sharing political and socio-economic resources and structure among communities in the State. His economic action plan in the state covers all the communities for even development to be possible. He gave women the right to participate in political process which is also an indicator of equity and fairness of his administration.
Governor Ugwuanyi peace economy in Enugu State is a veritable model that requires consolidation and continuity. We are today enjoying an unprecedented peace in the State because we have a man with peace nature. Let us support the governors agenda for a safe Enugu State.
