Not less than eight people reportedly died on Tuesday, December 15 in Rivers state while struggling to get their share of Christmas palliative.
Bibian Anekwe News learnt that the individuals whose name are yet to be revealed, died in a stampeded at Pitcoin Xmas palliative sharing centre in the state.
The Nation reports that the tragic incident happened today in Rumudara town of Obio/Akpor local government area.
It was reported that the incident happened after a large number of people said to be members of Pinkcoin, an online blockchain digital assets designed for giving charity gathered at the centre to get some Christmas palliatives.
The supposed relieving event, however, turned sour and caused mourning in the state as the crowd became uncontrollable and people struggling to gain access to the office stampede on each other.
Confirming the incident, the Rivers police command said the situation is being closely monitored to avert further tragedy. The police command gave this assurance through its police public relations officer, Nnamdi Omoni.
Meanwhile, leader of dreaded Boko Haram group, Abubakar Shekau has claimed responsibility for the abduction of over 300 students from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Katsina State, Bibian Anekwe News reports.
