Gov ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State have remodeled and upgraded old government lodge at GRA Enugu. The lodge was built by the government of Jim Nwobodo in the 80’s. No successive government after Jim Nwobodo did any meaningful renovation or facelift to the lodge until Ugwuanyi come into office. Some past governments used the lodge as the office of the first lady while others used it as residential building for some government officials.
In his characteristics manner, governor Ugwuanyi digged deep and confronted many issues needing intervention including the old government lodge which he has now remodeled. He also thought it wise to save cost by making it a guest house for visitors of Enugu State Government than paying for hotel accommodation at very high cost. That is why Gov Ugwuanyi remodeled, expanded and upgraded Enugu State Government Lodge.
When the lodge is completed, it will have a 600 seater state of the art banquet hall, offices at the basement, meeting rooms and retaining walls, relaxation lawn, etc. It also has an extension to accommodate more people. Other landmark projects include 10 units of Executive Guest Houses and 24 units of Guest Flats with dinning hall. It has sporting facilities like standard Lawn Tennis Court fitted with lighting facilities, table tennis courts and other sports facilities.
Gov Ugwuanyi is seeing the future and knows that Enugu State need such facility today and will need it most in the near future. These facilities will save us a lot of money both today and in time to come. Most guest houses owned by Enugu State is either near collapse, mortgaged or sold out. Hotel presidential Enugu that was the pride of the East in the years gone by has become a shadow of itself today. The hotel was given out in the time of ex-governor Sullivan Chime and up till today, nothing is happening there. Ikenga hotel Enugu was demolished by the past government and nothing good came out of that place until Gov Ugwuanyi came into power. Ikenga hotels Nsukka is still leap froging and gasping for survival.
When Ugwuanyi came into power, Enugu State have no single guest house anywhere and that is why this one is a most welcome development. Beside saving cost, the edifice will create jobs and training ground for our youths. We pray that more of this will come our way and that is why we are proud to say that Enugu State is in the hand of God.
