It has become a regular feature of the political office holders in our clime over the years to abandon their campaign promises to the people immediately after gaining their desired political power courtesy of the votes of the people. They have learnt more often to pass the buck rather than tackle their responsibilities as elected leaders of the people. They usually come up with mind boggling and laughable excuses as to why they failed in bringing good governance to the people whom they have promised heaven on earth during their electioneering campaigns. What a shame!
His Excellency Lawrence Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi comes away as an exception and has proven overtime of his social contract with the people of Enugu is no accident or for political ego tripping. Instead of engaging in blame game or passing the buck of government failure on his predecessors, he has enamored Ndi Enugu exceptionally with his good governance qualities even in the face of global daunting economic challenges.
He had kept faith with his mandate to make Enugu state, the true capital of former Eastern Nigeria by revamping a lot of sectors which went comatose under the unbearable yoke of mismanagement in the past while setting up new sectors for optimal growth of the state economy.
It is important to note that the efforts of governor Ugwuanyi’s administration have remained largely visible and done without much ado or hype as most of the political gladiators would do. In effect, governor Ugwuanyi simply understands that he is just doing the job he was elected to do and therefore not complaining. Some of the signature efforts in government by Ugwuanyi’s administration include but not limited to the following,
¶ COMPLETION OF GOVERNMENT ABANDONED PROJECTS. Governor Ugwuanyi understands that government is a continuum, therefore rather than ignore those projects which took significant resources of the state but were uncompleted due to various reasons, he had rather complete them before starting new ones to avoid economic wastage.
¶ REVAMP IN THE HOUSING SECTOR Gov. Ugwuanyi understand that the provision of shelter to the teeming population is sine qua non to the advancement of any nation or state. Over the years successive governments had only paid lip service to the housing development while earmarking humongous sums of money into phoney housing projects that only ended up in the private pockets of few individuals.
¶ UPSCALE IN SOCIAL AMENITIES Gov. Ugwuanyi made the rural-urban renewal a cardinal objective of his administration. Today, the urge for rural urban migration has been drastically reduced. What is usually found in the cities are now found in the rural communities especially potable water, adequate security, electricity and lots more.
¶ EMPLOYMENT GENERATION:
Governor Ugwuanyi has improved on the social contract with the people by initiating policies aimed at generating employment to the teeming unemployed. Unemployment has become a sad commentary on government across the levels owing to its strategic role as mass employers of Labour but Ugwuanyi is determined to change this narrative for good.
¶ REBUILD OF DAMAGED GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE PROPERTIES:
The administration of governor Ugwuanyi understands that no society is immune from protest induced damages of government and private properties. Of a fact is that conflicts are inescapable in a fledgling democracy. In the wake of the unfortunate #endsars protest which rocked the nation at the tail end of year 2020, a lot of government and private properties were destroyed by a section of the unruly protesters in Enugu. Governor Ugwuanyi has recently embarked on the rebuild of these damaged critical infrastructures of the government and a few others belonging to private citizens.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a truly a leader and workaholic without borders. Ndi Enugu please, continue to thank God for the gift of a leader who understands his duties and responsibilities without promptings and who is serving the good people of Enugu State without complain on the work load.
