What you would never hear the harbingers of woes or those large mouthed rabble rousers discuss in the open that shame may not overwhelm them is that Ugwuanyi is an extra-miler. For whatever anyone can say, Gov. Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi is an extraordinary leader with goal-oriented genetics fulcrum jibing him for more. His administration now enjoys a historical pride of place as a pace-setter of sort. His Innovations and right policies matched with political will to bring into being that which have been mulled over can never be over emphasized. Literally, everything he places his hands and mind to accomplish turns gold. Perhaps, his name “Ifeanyichukwu” which literally means ‘Nothing pass God’ has done much to surpass the expectations of the people in his socio-political and economic contract with Ndi Enugu.
Extra-mile leaders like Ugwuanyi understands the culture, subculture and superstructure of the society they deal with. Of more decisive hallmark of leaders with hindsight is their subconscious knowledge of the socio-economic predicaments which afflicts a given people, the compassionate ability of a leader to slip himself in the shoes of his subjects. Knowing the pathogens for societal ills is one and curbing same in the bud is another. The latter has over the years eluded most of our politicians who demand that we append leadership qualities to their names.
The touchline remains that despite raging debate between politiking and leadership exceptional governance originates from personalities whose biological wiring is to advance beyond conventional norms.
Nearly all social vices and breaches of public peace today are traceable to substantial drop in quality education and literacy programs. A fact quite undeniable of Nigerian today’s bane. There’s no gainsaying that quality educational programs are spine of a well to do society – it makes not only feasible but also highly assured the hackneyed terms that “Youths are the leaders of tommorow” and that “A reader today is a leader tommorow”.
Even my illiterate but naturally intelligent mother would tease us with her determined conviction to have us her children schooled in any reputable citadel of learning within her means though it might cost mortgaging away her most swanky Ankara wears. We do jokingly wave aside her wishes but the message of educational premium registered adequately.
Governor Ugwuanyi by his academic penchant recently launched me into sombre reflection of a result oriented technocrat. It’s no longer ‘news’ that His Excellency in partnership with Nsukka General Youths Assembly built a spacious computer digital hub named after the Governor. This very digital hub like every other computer homes is superbly equipped to the brim to carryout computer training of Nsukka Youths in various digital programming ensuring they have the leeway to run at par with the globalized ideals.
Yet undone, Ugwuanyi has adverted the minds of Nsukka Youths to the prospects of agro-economy especially in this hard times where probable famine stares us in the face. Without hesitation a large land mass for fish rearing, fish hacking and animal feeds production was earmarked at Ede-Oballa and reports assures it’s completeness some weeks ago.
The score that broke the jinx is free registration for Jamb candidates of which no fewer than 130 Nsukka indigent students are now beneficiaries. Of a more dramatic upsurge in the numbers of slots are efforts of other illustrious son’s and daughters of Enugu State who shares same Gburugburu’s ideals. They have come to terms with the doings of Gburu’s to check idleness, a mother of juvenile proclivities in the state. Education a non justiciable rights under Nigerian grundnorm is witnessing a liberal construction under Ugwuanyi’s watch. This is spectacularly commendable given the drastic inroads to that particular provision of the constitution via mass purchase of Jamb forms, free computer training amongst other life-changing programs fostered by the people’s Governor.
Enugu State cannot be in the hands of God without a difference or put bluntly a veering off routine governance to innovation that incentivice all round development in every sector of which Youths academic grooming is prime. Parents who peradventure denies their wards particularly indigent ones this rare opportunity are in my view frolicking with away blue moon treasures for there might be no Ugwuanyi again after his office. But let’s all place our trust in God Almighty, because Nothing pass God!
