For the critical minds, the emergence of Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the Chief Executive Officer of Enugu state in 2015 may not have come as an accident. It was one fervent prayer roundly answered by Chukwu Okike Abiama. Every spectrum of the social strata spoke with one voice and gave Nwa David Ugwuanyi the desired mandate to steer the ship of state. Enugu state has never had it so good. The defining moment came when on May 29, 2015 Dr. Lawrence Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi mounted the rostrum after taking his oath of office and unveiled his stimulating governance agenda. He was emphatic that going forward, never will the grass-roots suffer neglect and that the entire state would be his oyster. He vowed to govern under the direction of God Almighty and will entrust the state into His able care. Just as his name suggests (Ifeanyi Chukwu) he was confident that nothing would ever be impossible for God to accomplish.
Four years down the line, Ugwuanyi left no one in doubt that he meant every word he reeled out as his campaign thrust and enamoured not quite a few with his unprecedented development trajectories at the grass-roots. His well thought out policy of one ward one project to stimulate even development in the rural areas hit the bull’s eyes within a short period of four years. Today, there has been a tremendous decline in the rural urban migration after all there is a saying that what is in Sokoto can easily be found in shokoto. The rural areas having witnessed tremendous renewal made it unattractive to move massively to the urban centres with it’s concomitant hustles and bustles.
Six years down the road, governor Ugwuanyi is not yet done with his definition of leadership especially with the grass-roots population. A motivational speaker, Roland has this to say of a leader and his skills,…
“LEADERSHIP IS ACTION AND NOT TITLES! Being a servant is a phase of great leadership ahead! The Boss has the title, while the people follow the leader! Leaders instill in their people a hope for success and a belief in themselves. Positive leaders empower people to accomplish their goals. Leaders have a vision that keeps them going through difficult times”.
Ugwuanyi has not only empowered many people in the rural communities by providing amenities that make lives easier and better, he is doing so with a passion and panache. To accelerate his rural developmental initiatives, he doled handsome sum of five million Naira each to all the communities in Enugu state even in the face of the global economic crisis. What a socialist Governor!
Today, places like Nike Lake Hotel Junction, Harmony Estate, Amorji Nike Adoration pilgrimage center, Ngenevu settlement, the asphalting of 22 .443km inter community link road which connected many communities and local governments which included Isi-uzo and Udenu local government under the rural access and mobility project (RAMP) etc bear eloquent testimonies to so many of your passionate achievements to ease the stress of the people you govern especially in the rural region.
There is no doubt that peace and harmony is sine qua non to ensuring development of a any society. Governor has often pursued peace with same vigour knowing that he will never be able to achieve much in an atmosphere of rancour and crisis.
