Uneasy they say lies the head that wears the Crown. But one has often wondered why as eternally truthful as this assertion has remained, people have continued to struggle for the ‘Crown’. The underlying truth however is that it is not always a bed of roses for the ‘Crown’ inspite of the allure of office. The South East of Nigeria is currently under siege. There is no doubt about this. No thanks therefore for the intractable political quagmire that seem to have risen to a crescendo especially after the rearrest and incarceration of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Many youths who hitherto have remained restive almost to a point of frustration on account of government seeming inability to provide enabling environment for good and productive economic well-being have found another albi to cause havoc to fellow citizens at the slightest provocation or lack of it. Law abiding citizens can no longer walk freely in their own fatherland. The insurgency as being experienced in the northern part of the country is gradually creeping it’s ugly head into the heart beat of the Igbo nation. Certainly, this is not the best of time to aspire to the ‘Crown’ in any part of the Igbo region and environs.
It is instructive to note that governor Ugwuanyi is a leader who God has blessed with an uncommon grace to administer his people. Keen watchers of his administration will readily agree that the reason Enugu State has remained relatively calm and peaceful could be attributed to his uncommon commitment to cultivate peace and preach peace to all and sundry no matter the political, religious or cultural considerations. Governor Ugwuanyi’s investments to achieve regional peace is also unmatched. Most importantly, governor Ugwuanyi has continued to provide the much needed enablement for the youths to discover themselves to ensure that they contribute to the national development rather than remain perpetually restive.
What he is doing with the state small and medium enterprises hub center being engineerd by the youthful Hon. Chilo-Offiah to positively engage the youths is equally commendable. Almost all the critical areas of his administration is being manned by one youthful energetic technocrat or another. It was quite unfortunate to witness or even read what happened last Wednesday in Enugu. A true story of how the few unsatisfied youths allowed themselves to be used to make life unbearable for Ndi Enugu on Wednesday, the 23rd of February, 2022 during the state wide local government elections.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has since his assumption of office in 2015 consistently conducted council elections to foster good governance at the grassroots level when majority of his contemporaries are busy inaugurating hand-picked care taker committee leaders to man the local government affairs over the years. Wednesday, the 23rd of February 2022 will go down in history as a low down in the life of the peaceable governor of Enugu state when a few uninformed youths took arms to unleash mayhem and destroy lives and properties of fellow citizens who have filed out to perform their civic responsibilites in some parts of Enugu. Whatever be the gain of that otherwise peaceful exercise have been watered down by the misadventures of those unruly young men who chose to spill blood and leaving anguish in their trail.
Interestingly, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is one leader who will never go to bed while his house is in turmoil. To unearth the immediate and remote causes of the embarrassment caused to his government and the state at large following the destruction of lives and properties in some parts of Nkanu East and West while the state wide local government elections was on course, the peaceful man had summoned all the critical stakeholders from the troubled zone to a round table discussion. The outcome of such discussion it is hoped will calm frayed nerves, heal the injured, comfort the afflicted and most importantly lay the permanent foundation for everlasting peace across Enugu State.
2023 general elections is just around the corner. We cannot continue with this unwanton destruction of lives and properties of our people. Let’s borrow sense for once and understand that what peace cannot achieve, war must destroy. We cannot opt for war at this critical period of our nation building. We must be alive to resuscitate our wobbling nation state.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is peace personified. We must all join him to sustain Enugu of our dream land where peace and harmony reigns and forever.
